Our Community Salmon Program supports volunteer and community–driven organizations that undertake salmon conservation and restoration projects.
Our research efforts, conservation initiatives, and commitment to salmon health studies make up our Marine Science program in the Salish Sea.
Pacific salmon are in decline across British Columbia and the Yukon, according to PSF’s State of Salmon Report. More than 70 per cent of salmon are below their long-term average of the 41 combinations of regions and species assessed. While the State of Salmon Report underscores widespread salmon declines, there are hopeful exceptions that highlight the resilience of Pacific salmon and opportunities for recovery.

PSF provided funding to support Raincoast Conservation Foundation’s study of post-flood water contaminants. Along with partners, Raincoast took 29 surface water samples in the former Semá:th Xó:tsa (Sumas Lake) area over a seven-week period.
Their critical research detailed widespread contamination of the waters in fish habitat. Their efforts gave valuable insights into the wide range of contamination sources mpacting the environment. Their findings shed light on the need for improved environmental monitoring so we can prevent pollution from contaminating our important salmon habitat in the future.
